Session Leaders

£14.00 – £21.00 per hour, depending on experience

Part-time, flexible hours, including weekends

Wheely Tots is a rapidly growing registered charity based in North London. Our ethos is to improve family and community lives through unique cycling activities and experiences. Our aim is to promote more cohesive, inclusive and healthier communities.

We are looking to grow our pool of freelance session leaders who can deliver a range of provision to families with toddlers, young people and adults in and around Finsbury Park and Tottenham. Our programme includes:

Successful candidates will have access to relevant training, for example:

  • The National Cycle Instructor training (4 day accredited course worth c.£840)
  • Bike mechanics
  • Balance bike training
  • First Aid

Person Type / Experience

This role would be suitable if you have a genuine passion for working in an outdoor environment all year round and are keen to share your expertise and knowledge with parents, young people and children. We are looking for people who are:

  • Self starters who are driven to make things work in a fast-paced, ambitious start up environment
  • Passionate about creative, outdoor, participant-led learning
  • Experienced with peer to peer learning, versus the traditional teacher – student approach
  • Experienced in working in outdoors environments
  • Strong relationship builders, able to work closely with parents, young people and children alike
  • Able to incorporate creativity (e.g. music, art, maths, storytelling) into toddler and children’s sessions
  • Flexible and adaptable but organised in approach
  • Receptive to incorporating new practices into play / educational approach, a background in education is not essential but would be useful
  • Sensitive, clear and friendly in their communication style
  • Able to balance risk with developmental benefit and well-being for children, young people and adults, to provide an appropriate level of challenge

Desirable Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Primary School and/or EYFS framework experience
  • Cycling / Active Travel experience
  • Creative facilitation experience
  • Forest School experience
  • Youth work experience

Bike Mechanic for Your Bike Project

  • £18.00 – £35.00 per hour, dependent on experience
  • To lead weekly drop in Saturday sessions for young people on Broadwater Farm Estate, Tottenham
  • Sessions run Saturday afternoons
  • As the project grows, there’s the strong likelihood of more sessions.

Your Bike Project is a youth-led cycling initiative taking place in and around Northumberland Park and Broadwater Farm Estates. We’re working with 11 – 18 year olds to embed and share skills in the community.
