Connecting Well
Connecting Well was a 3-year programme from 2021-2024 funded by the National Lottery Reaching Communities. The project was designed to bring the generations together through innovative, community-led, walking and cycling activities. Activities were based in Haringey with Tottenham and the Broadwater Farm Estate (“the Farm”) as its main focus. The sessions evolved as we responded to participants’ ideas and feedback.

‘This group is about socialising and walking, riding a bike, different conversations, meeting people and fresh air.’
The sessions were designed around the NHS five steps to well being: connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give.
Connect
Connect with friends new and old. Invest time in developing these relationships. Building these connections will enrich you every day.
‘This group is good, very good. When you are alone your mind will go too far, all the bad things that happen to you. When we are together we support each other.’
Be active
Make walking and cycling part of your weekly routine. Exercising makes you feel good. Step outside whatever the weather.
‘When you are a carer it is really important to secure yourself the time to do these things kind of things’
Take notice
Be curious. Notice the changing seasons. Be aware of the world around you. Savour the moment. Enjoy the here and now.
‘ There are so many new things to see each time we walk’
Keep learning
Try something new. Learn to ride a bike, become a walk leader or find out something new about nature or local history and share it with others during one of our sessions.
‘To be honest I never thought I would learn to ride at my age. I am 69 now and I am doing this! I feel a little bit more confident every week.’
Give
A smile, a hug. Do something nice for a friend or stranger. Be generous. Say thank you. Volunteer your time.
‘I have recently moved to Haringey……I enjoyed meeting and chatting to new people and exploring volunteering as a way to get to know the community’
